The Draft-Text of the Proposed-Law on Climate Action has been presented

At today’s public debate, the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning presented the Draft-text for the Proposal-Law on Climate Action.Zakon-klimatska_akcija

The opening speech was given by the Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Kaja Shukova, who emphasized that climate action is at the core of the European Green Deal, whose goal is the transformation of the EU into a modern, sustainable economy and the achievement of climate neutrality of the EU by 2050.

The Republic of North Macedonia initially needs a comprehensive legal framework designed in accordance with the climate legislation of the European Union, which will provide a solid legal basis for strategic planning and policy- making in accordance with the EU’s climate and energy policy framework with a perspective to 2050 – said ShukovaZakon-klimatska_akcija_1

She explained that at the moment there are no necessary regulatory measures and the appropriate institutional setting needed to ensure the harmonization of national legislation with the EU climate legislation, as well as the implementation of regulatory measures.

Dr. Teodora Obradovic Grncarovska presented the draft text of the Proposed Law and pointed out that considering the complexity and scope of the matter that this Law should legally regulate, the MOEPP is fully open to sustained comments, suggestions and proposals.Zakon-klimatska_akcija_3

The proposal of the Climate Action Law adapts several legal acts at the EU level, in accordance with our status as a country with an open process as a full member of the European family.Zakon-klimatska_akcija_2

The public debate was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning, interested citizens, non-governmental organizations, representatives from the business sector, representatives from industrial sectors, as well as representatives from the media.
