With an exhibition of poster presentations made by students attending classes in the schools included in the GLOBE program and with a practical demonstration of the GLOBE protocols, today the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning marked April 22, Earth Day, which this year is celebrated under the motto “We invest in knowledge – we take care for the planet”. At the event, representatives from the Ministry introduce the present students to the work of the state automatic monitoring system for ambient air quality, they spoke about the necessity and benefits of regular and timely monitoring of the quality of environmental media.
- Today, with this event, we confirm our commitment to the implementation of the GLOBE Program, which for us represents an extremely important and noble mission in two areas of crucial importance for our future – environmental protection through its knowledge and education of the young generations, because they are the main actors in the changes for a quality life and a sustainable and preserved environment, which they will inherit from us – the Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Kaja Shukova, emphasized in her opening speech.
She added that this year’s theme for the World Earth Day is clearly reflected in the values represented by the GLOBE program, where Republic of North Macedonia has been involved since 1998 and whose practical training was completed by about 60 professors from the country.
Opening speeches at the event were also given by the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Skopje, H.E. Eric Meyer and the Deputy Coordinator of the GLOBE Program, Ana Dimishkova.
At the event, equipment, which is a donation from the MOEPP, (infrared non-contact thermometers) was awarded to 18 schools, and 4 more gardening kits to the four most active schools for 2022.
The GLOBE program is an international project for the protection of the environment, where science, education and technology are combined at an international level through the education of students, in order to raise awareness of the environment. Students from over 38,000 schools from 127 countries work according to unified protocols in understanding the various media of the environment.
