The Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Kaja Shukova today held a meeting with the representatives of the Macedonian Ecological Society (MES) as one of the biggest partners of the Ministry in the protection of natural values in the country. In this meeting, the current and future planned activities of the MES were discussed, as well as the areas where joint partnership actions can and should be intensified.
They discussed the status of the protected areas Osogovo Mountains and Maleshevo, in the process of which MES was an active partner, and where and what kind of support they need to establish a sustainable management of these natural resources and national natural values. They also talked about the situation in the national parks, especially NP Mavrovo dhe the Study for Revaluation, in the preparation of which MES was also involved.
A special focus was placed on the activities for the identification of the Natura 2000 network at the national level, which the MOEPP is implementing in cooperation with the MES. The capacity building program for the implementation of the Natura 2000 network is one of the Ministry’s priorities in the process of environmental protection and acceleration of European integration process. The need for youth involvement and capacity building for the NATURA 2000 network was also emphasized.
