Izairi: We should all act in responsible manner towards environment and waste we generate

DSC_0023(03.10.2015) Today, the Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Nurhan Izairi and the Mayor of the Municipality of Gostivar Nevzat Bejta joined the activities in the frames of the action “Macedonia free of waste” carried out in Gostivar Municipality, at the location “Stari Kasarni” along the road to the village Rusino.

Pointing out that sustainable cleaning of illegal waste dumps requires much more than the activities of central and local governments. It also requires high level of awareness of all of us that we should have responsible attitude to environment and waste we generate, Minister Izairi said:

- The action is aimed at raising the awareness among citizens for proper waste management and development of mechanisms to support citizens, municipalities and other stakeholders to better cope with illegal waste dunping in their communities.

Minister Izairi and Mayor Bejta visited the landfill Rusino where the Minister underlined that MEPP was considering several models for regional integrated waste management, including also Polog region and this landfill. One of the models was utilization of resources from IPA funds.

With this campaign, the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia have joined for the fourth time the global action – Let’s do it! World, officially supported by the European parliament and this year implemented in 112 countries in the world.

Local self-governments throughout the country are also part of this campaign, as well as many institutions, organizations, students, civil organizations and media, while locations cleaned are mapped on the web site of the global action Let’s do it World clean up!
