Skopje, 16 April 2026 The Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Muamet Hoxha, addressed today’s National Nature Conference, where he emphasized that a joint systematic response is the only path toward the long-term preservation of natural resources. “Let us work together for a genuine green transition,” he said, emphasizing the importance of partnership between institutions and the civil society sector.
In his address, Hoxha focused on the new Law on Nature Protection, which is being published this month on ENER, and called on all organizations to actively participate in the public consultation. According to him, field-based knowledge is essential in order to create a system that will permanently protect natural values and biodiversity.
The Minister emphasized that work is being done on several fronts for nature protection. Laws are being harmonized with the EU Habitats and Birds Directives. The Natura 2000 network is being developed and new protected areas are being proclaimed. A new biodiversity strategy is being prepared, and stable financing is being worked on through BIOFIN. In parallel, a regional waste management system is being established, which will put an end to illegal dumpsites in nature. “The goal is clear – a sustainable, long-term system, not temporary solutions,” concluded Hoxha.
