Implementation of the new legal obligations for the industry related to Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control.

According to the Law on Environment, as of January 1, 2006, the implementation of new legal obligations for the industry related to Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) has begun. This permit system is covered by two chapters in the law: Chapter XII – Integrated Environmental Permits and Chapter XIV – Permits for Compliance with Operational Plans.

The deadline for submitting applications for Type A Integrated Environmental Permits has already started, and the first six-month period applies to installations for metal production and processing, as well as leather tanning (01.01.2006 to 01.07.2006).

The schedule for submitting applications for Type A Integrated Permits for the entire industry is determined by the Regulation on defining the activities of installations for which integrated environmental permits or compliance permits with operational plans are issued, as well as the timetable for submitting applications for compliance permits with operational plans (Official Gazette 89/05).

Operators of existing installations must submit applications for permits to comply with operational plans. The type of document (A or B) depends on the capacity of the installation. Applications for integrated environmental permits are submitted for new installations.
