Phenomena that are difficult to control occur, large amounts of pollutant substances are released, the greenhouse effect appears, the ozone layer is damaged, and emissions of pollutant substances increase.
These are the effects of rapid technological development, industrial growth, frequent accidents, and other activities dictated by modern human life, as well as natural disasters (earthquakes, floods, fires, volcanic eruptions).
Taking all these indicators and global changes into account, it is necessary to take measures to improve the situation, especially the air quality.
Precisely for this reason, it is of particular interest to have data on the origin, prevalence, and impact of pollutants present in the air, in order to take measures to reduce them. Therefore, the Macedonian Environmental Information Center collects, processes, and analyzes data on air emissions from individual sources as well as emissions from traffic.
To determine the state of pollutant concentrations in ambient air, regular monitoring is conducted using the State Automatic Monitoring System for Ambient Air Quality, as well as measurement stations of other competent institutions.
After appropriate data processing, these data can be used to inform the public, prepare documents, and undertake actions to improve air quality and protection plans.
