Hoxha’s meeting with MES: The Balkan Lynx knows no borders, strong regional protection is needed

Skopje, 24 March 2026  The Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Muamet Hoxha, today held a working meeting with representatives of the Macedonian Ecological Society, dedicated to advancing activities for the protection of endangered species and the preservation of biodiversity.

At the meeting with Robertina Brajanovska, Executive Director of the Society, and Dime Melovski, Head of the Wildlife Programme, the discussions focused on the need for stronger institutional support, as well as the intensification of cross-border cooperation with Albania and Kosovo, given that part of the Balkan lynx population also moves beyond national borders.

The representatives of the Society presented the Minister with photographs of the Balkan lynx documented on both sides of the border. The photographs will be displayed at the Ministry as a symbolic reminder of the importance of a regional approach to the protection of natural heritage.

Minister Hoxha emphasized the institution’s commitment to deepening cooperation with the civil society sector and relevant partners, with the aim of ensuring more effective protection of biodiversity and sustainable management of natural resources.
