The Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning has initiated a procedure for the adoption of a Law on the proclamation of Belciste Wetland area as a protected area in category IV – Nature Park.
Belciste Wetland area is a significant wetland habitat with high biodiversity located in the Municipality of Debarca, and is important for the conservation of rare and endangered plant and animal species of national and EU importance, as well as for maintaining the natural balance and ecosystem services of the region. The aquatic area has already been identified as a future Natura 2000 site.
The following activities are planned in the procedure related to the preparation of the Draft Law:
Public notice was published on the website of the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning (www.moepp.gov.mk) and on ENER – Unique National Electronic Register of Regulations of the Republic of North Macedonia (http://www.ener.gov.mk/).
The deadline for public consultations with stakeholders and citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia for submitting comments, opinions and proposals lasts 20 days from the date of publication of the content of the Draft Law on the website of the Unique National Register of Regulations.
During the procedure, direct consultations and meetings with stakeholders may be organized, as well as a public debate if deemed necessary.

Public participation is of particular importance to ensure quality and sustainable protection of Belciste Wetland area, taking into account both its natural values and the interests of the local population.
