Gostivar, 19 February 2026 A modern regional waste management system means an end to improvisations and a lasting solution to the problem that has plagued citizens for decades – this was the key message from the address of the Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Muamet Hoxha, at the presentation of the new machinery for the Rusino regional center.
The investment worth 1,114,200 euros has been implemented with support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. With the new machinery, the operational capacity of Rusino is significantly increased and modern standards are being introduced in daily operations. This activity is part of a broader investment of 55 million euros, through which the largest infrastructure reform in the waste management sector in the country has been launched.
In the next phase, an investment of approximately 14 million euros is planned for the rehabilitation and expansion of the dumpsite, which includes the construction of new dumpsite cells, a leachate and biogas management system, and the closure of the existing dumpsite.
This ensures full compliance with European standards and the establishment of a modern regional system, which means an end to illegal dumpsites and a cleaner environment for the citizens of the Polog region.
