Hoxha: Partnership with the World Bank continues for a systematic fight against air pollution

Skopje, 16 February 2026 – The Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Muamet Hoxha, held a working meeting with representatives of the World Bank, led by Ms. Karol Megevand, at which the existing cooperation and the possibilities for its further deepening in the field of air quality management were discussed.

During the meeting it was concluded that several significant projects aimed at improving the air pollution situation are currently being implemented, but that the need for additional investments remains.

Minister Hoxha emphasized that his goal is a systematic change in addressing air pollution, as a key priority in his work and in the work of the Ministry. He emphasized that long-term and sustainable solutions require strong partnerships with international institutions and continuous support in implementing reforms.

In that regard, Hoxha expressed readiness to continue and deepen cooperation with the World Bank, emphasizing that open communication will continue in the future as well, with a shared goal of improving air quality and protecting public health.

The Minister pointed out that the Ministry and the Government are continuously working to improve air quality through the Clean Air Action Plan, the Programme for the 2024-2030 period, as well as ongoing projects financed under IPA II and IPA III. It was further emphasized that there remains a need for additional investments and strengthened technical support in order to reduce pollution and ensure a clean environment for all citizens.
