Skopje, 06 February 2026 The Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Muamet Hoxha, at a working meeting with the directors of the National Parks Pelister, Mavrovo, Galicica, and Sharr Mountain, confirmed the strong and continuous support of the Ministry for their development, the protection of natural values, and sustainable management.
“I am particularly pleased to highlight that in 2026 as well, the Ministry, within its budget, has secured dedicated funds for further activities for the protection and promotion of the national parks, which represents a clear signal of the state’s long-term commitment to nature protection and sustainable development,” Minister Hoxha emphasized.
It was emphasized at the meeting that the national parks are a key pillar in the protection of natural heritage, but also an important driver of sustainable tourism and local economic development.
Minister Hoxha emphasized that the Ministry will continue to support the activities of the national parks through improvements in the legal framework, ensuring stable financial support from the state budget, as well as through coordination and mobilization of funds from PONT, the EU LIFE Programme, and other international partners. This will strengthen management, enhance the protection of biodiversity, and develop green infrastructure in the national parks.
As was emphasized at the meeting, national parks today represent not only protected areas, but also important drivers of sustainable development, attractive eco-tourism destinations, and a positive example of responsible management of natural resources.
