Skopje, 13 May 2026 The Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Muamet Hoxha, held a regular media briefing with journalists today, during which the current activities of the Ministry were presented in the areas of legislation, nature protection, digitalization, and the resolution of long-standing environmental issues.

Minister Hoxha informed that the Law on Nature has already been published on ENER and is open for comments, followed by public hearings. Its adoption is expected to strengthen the nature protection system, improve the management of natural resources, and ensure alignment with European directives and the country’s international obligations in the field of environment and biodiversity.

Additionally, the minister announced that amendments to the Law on Mountain Trails will soon be submitted for government procedure.

At the same time, information was also shared about the Law on Belciste Wetland area, as part of the obligations for the protection of natural heritage and alignment with European standards.

The briefing also included information on the activities related to the establishment of the Digital Pollutants Registry, with emphasis placed on the ongoing phase of legal harmonization for the sharing and integration of data into the existing database.

Next week, the Ministry will hold meetings with civil society organizations in the field of environmental protection, as well as with companies holding A-integrated environmental permits, with the aim of ensuring timely preparation for the obligations arising from the new Law on Emission Control, which will enter into force in September 2027.

The Minister emphasized that transparency and partnership with the public remain key in the process of creating a healthier and more sustainable environmental protection system.
