With his presence, the Minister reaffirmed political commitment of the Republic of Macedonia to contribute to global efforts for climate change mitigation.

This segment of the global Summit is expected to define the final version of the document that will specify the obligations of countries after 2020 with regard to reduction of CO2 emissions.

The Republic of Macedonia developed and submitted to the Convention the document National Contribution to Climate Change as 23rd country in the world. The position of the Ministry as national focal point for climate change as well as of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia is that the negotiation process should result in global agreement of the Conference of Parties, under which all Parties will make their contribution, set on fair and equal basis in line with the abilities and specifics of each country.

Our national contribution envisages that carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels combustion drop by 30% or 36% at higher level of ambition by 2030 compared to baseline scenario. Emissions of carbon dioxide from fossil fuels combustion contribute nearly 80% to the overall emission of greenhouse gases with predominant share of energy supply, buildings and transport sectors.

In this segment, addresses will be made by ministers of countries the presidents or prime ministers of which have not had statements, while participants will work on different chapters of the Agreement in contact groups coordinated by other attending ministers.

In the frames of participation in COP 21, Minister Izairi will also have series of bilateral meetings and visit additional events of urban resilience.
