Funds are provided for investment in the basic waste management infrastructure in the country

1Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Nasser Nuredini, and the Ambassador of Switzerland, H.E Sybille Suter Tejada, today visited the Regional Center for Development of the Polog region, where they met with representatives of the consulting team and the contractor to inspect the progress of the implementation of the rapid rehabilitation measures at the existing waste disposal site Rusino, which are a prerequisite for starting the second phase of the process of establishing an integrated self-sustaining waste management system in the Polog region.

At the meeting, Ambassador Suter Tejada expressed readiness to continue the financial support of SECO, by providing additional funds for the establishment of infrastructure and implementation of the Regional Waste Management Plan in the Polog region, if the state provides funds to continue the planned activities.

For that purpose, Minister Nuredini informed that with the request of the MOEPP, the Government of the Republic of Northern Macedonia on February 2 approved the start of the procedure for obtaining a loan from international financial organizations to establish a regional waste management system in Southeast, Vardar, Pelagonija. Southwest and Polog Region in the amount of 55,367,614.00 euros.

By providing these funds, the state will be able to start building the basic waste management infrastructure at the regional level.
