Panel discussion “Energy modeling within climate change and COP 21”

CC2(06 October 2015) The Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Nurhan Izairi and Operational Head of EU Delegation Marting Klauke opened discussion panel on “Energy modeling within climate change and COP 21” which took place today in the premises of the EU InfoCentre in Skopje. The goal of the panel was to open discussion on activities undertaken by Macedonia towards the forthcoming conference on climate change scheduled in December in Paris.

In his address, Minister Izairi said that all countries should aim at lower carbon development in order to achieve the set target for temperature increase below 2°C by the end of the century.

- We are committed to adoption of internationally binding agreement applicable for all Parties. Agreement 2015 has to be ambitious, legally binding, multilateral, based on the rules for global participation and based on scientific information. Agreement 2015 should also observe the principles of the Convention, he said.

Furter on, Izairi added that, in the frames of the preparations for the forthcoming Climate Change Conference to take place in December in Paris, Republic of Macedonia has adopted its so called national contribution for climate change as 23rd country in the world.

The process includes data collection and its entry in the energy model named 2050 Calculator, as well as the best scenarios by which Macedonia will reach 78% reductions of emissions by 2050.

The second part of the event focused on discussion panel on the topic “Energy modeling within climate change and COP 21”.
