Capacity for implementation of water management legislation are being strengthened

zamenik1(03.12.2015) Today, the Deputy Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Stevo Temelkovski and EU Ambassador H.E.Aivo Orav addressed the closing event of the project “Technical assistance to strengthen institutional capacity for compliance and implementation of the legislation in the area of waters management” at which the final project outcomes were presented.

- This project contributed significantly to the sustainable development of the country through strengthening the capacity of the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planningor more precisely the water department and other relevant institutions concerned with waters management. The project assisted further transposition and implementation of the European water legislation through development of priority bylaws in the area of water management in line with the Framework Water Directive, strengthening of the administrative capacity on central level for water legislation enforcement and elaboration of the four basic elements of Vardar River Basin management plan, namely river basin characterization, analysis of the pressure impact, identification of protected areas and proposal for development of monitoring programme, pointed out the Deputy Minister Temelkovski, adding that this was a step forward in further implementation of the Framework Water Directive and enhancement of the process of integration with the European Union.

The project is supported by the European Union and implemented by the consulting company Rambol from Denmark as part of the programme for assistance in transition and institutions building – TAIB 2009.
