NUREDINI: Our mission is to propose and implement measures that lead to low carbon emissions

Nuredini_KonferencijaMinister of Environment and Physical Planning Naser Nuredini and the Ambassador Vuk Zugic, OSCE coordinator for Economic Activities and Environmental Protection Activities made the opening of the introductory conference of the project: ” Strengthening security responses to the risks caused by climate change in Southeast Europe, Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus and Central Asia”.

The conference is dedicated to strengthening the regional consultation process on climate change and security and is part of a project that aims to reduce threats related to climate change in Southeast Europe, Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus and Central Asia, through raising awareness, capacity building and knowledge exchange within the regions, as well as through the implementation of measures for adaptation to climate change in the most endangered geographical areas.

In the introductory speech, Minister Nuredini stressed the need for international cooperation and investment in order to avoid possible scenarios caused by climate change. Considering that we are facing a triple crisis: the health crisis, the possible economic crisis and the ongoing climate crisis, the Minister stressed the need to be careful and mentioned that this period should serve as a lesson.

” We must work together to overcome weaknesses in our global society. Interruptions in the food supply chain have raised alarms in many parts of the world, and this is what we may face on a regular basis if we do not take action on the risks posed by climate change. Our mission is to propose measures and policies that reduce carbon emissions and increase the sustainability of our country and the region through a comprehensive and transparent process. The world is changing in many ways. Let’s learn, let’s adapt, let’s make the right changes. Let’s create the secure future we want. Together”, concluded Minister Nuredini.

The project is being implemented as a result of OSCE co-operation with the European Comission and the Austrian Development Agency. Otherwise, in addition to climate change, the OSCE, as an important issue that is being discussed globally, regionally and nationally, through specific projects adresses the link between climate change and potential security impacts.
